Trauma

Trauma deeply impacts people, disrupting their sense of safety and emotional stability. At Art Therapy Guelph, our trauma art therapists create a nurturing space for clients to explore and process their experiences safely. Through art therapy for trauma and/or trauma counseling, we offer personalized approaches to empower individuals to process their trauma, experience personal growth and begin healing from traumatic experiences.

Our Motive Toward Healing

Our healing trauma therapy involves talk and/or art therapy. We aim to tailor suit our approach to the client’s needs. Therapy may be talk therapy and/or combine creative artmaking with evidence-based psychotherapy tools and interventions such as CBT, DBT, Trauma Counseling, Mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems. We offer brainspotting. We aim to help people recover personal strengths and feel emotionally stable. Our focus is on learning to identify triggers, building resilience skills, learning grounding tools, and practicing self-compassion, so they can regain their strength, balance and hope in life.

A Look At Trauma Therapy Sessions

If you work with one of our Trauma and PTSD Therapists in Guelph, we start with an open-hearted conversation to understand your experiences. Together, we create a safe space where you can freely express yourself, your traumas, or simply your thoughts through talk and/or art—whether it’s drawing, painting, or sculpting. Guided by our trauma therapists specializing in healing trauma therapy, these activities help you explore and process challenging emotions and memories at your own pace.

Throughout our sessions, we blend evidence-based techniques tailored just for you. We believe in collaboration and choice. We will focus on building your coping skills, processing, and reframing beliefs that prevent healing, working with parts of you that feel stuck in the past, and nurturing resilience through mindfulness practices and body-centered approaches. We love brainspotting for trauma processing and working through stuck points. We aim to empower you with self-compassion and guide you toward healing, helping you regain a sense of control and peace in your life.

Your Trauma Is Not Your Fault, But Healing Is Your Responsibility

Although the pain of trauma may linger, the path to healing is within your control. At Art Therapy Guelph, we believe in post-traumatic growth and developing strengths to overcome. We believe in stepping out of the spiral and into healing trauma through coping tools, processing, understanding, self compassion and connection. Through personalized therapy sessions, we offer tools and support to help you heal your inner child and wounds, build resilience, and find renewed hope in your journey towards trauma recovery.
