Group Art Therapy for Mature Women
Online art therapy offers mature women mental health benefits by providing a supportive space for self-expression and emotional healing. Engaging in creative activities through art therapy can support women who experience anxiety, depression, and stress, fostering a sense of calm and emotional resilience.
Group Art Therapy for Mature Women is held online on zoom. Participants need a private space and a secure internet connection and a few art supplies (paint, paper, air dry clay, collage materials, pencil crayons, pastels, marker for example). No artistic skill is required. The art if for free expression only.Â
The structure of each session is that each person checks in, discusses how they are feeling and then the art therapist/psychotherapist recommends an art exercise suited to the participants needs. Each person has time to create their art, then share their creation, thoughts and what their art means to them.Â
The next group group art therapy starts on Friday, April 25th 2025, and runs every other week for four sessions. It runs from 9-11.30 am.
The fee for the 4 2.5 hour sessions is $240.00.
Receipts are provided for a registered psychotherapist session and can be submitted to insurance for reimbursement should participants have coverage for that.Â

About Group Art Therapy for Mature Women
Art therapy, rooted in modern psychotherapy from the 1950s, is a creative way to practice healthy self-care. Prominent psychologists like Carl Jung, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Rogers advocated for art-making as beneficial for mental health. Margaret Naumberg, often called the grandmother of art therapy, significantly contributed to its development. Art therapy uses creative art-making as a tool for expression in therapy.Â
Art Therapy Guelph’s groups are geared towards mature adult women. They are held online using the zoom app. Each group has between 6 to 8 participants, so remember that these groups have limited space.
Each week, participants will begin with a check-in, sharing their personal experiences, struggles, and aspirations in a supportive environment. The therapist will suggest an art exercise tailored to each individual’s needs, fostering collaboration and creativity. For about 40 minutes, participants will immerse themselves in art-making, allowing self-expression and healing to flourish. Afterwards, everyone will have the opportunity to share their artwork and reflect on its significance, either by email or during the session. No artistic skills are required, and the quality of the art is never judged—only the emotional journey and personal insights gained. Join us for a transformative experience that nurtures your well-being and connects you with a community of understanding peers.
Art Therapy Guelph groups are closed, meaning the same participants attend all four sessions, with no new members joining or leaving. Space is limited, and clients must commit to all sessions to ensure cohesion and commitment.
Please note: No refunds or makeup dates for missed sessions. Participants must prepay and attend all four sessions. If you cannot attend all sessions, please wait to join when you can.
